9 July 2021’s Sale

Posted on

Buyers from across South Africa supported our 44th auction on Friday, 9 July 2021. Apart from the loyal local supporters, buyers from as far as Velddrif in the Southern Cape, Stella, Hobhouse, and Lydenburg took part in the online sale.

Ewes:  The most expensive ewes pregnant with twin lambs went for R4 600 each, and was bought by Johan and Lizelle Hattingh from Warden. The Hattinghs also bought the second most expensive Lot at R4 400 each. This was top quality Stormhoek ewes!

Rams: The most expensive ram (Lot 21) was bought by Koos Eloff from Pretoria at R30 000, and the second most expensive ram (Lot 8; R28 000) by Herman and Gerbrie Botha from Vryheid. Hyett Beef in Bergville bought Lot 40, also at  R28 000. Cornel Kruger from Lumier paid R27 000 for Lot 44, and Gerrie Meyer from Bethlehem paid R25 000 for Lot 12. The quality of the rams was excellent, and an average sale price of R16 323 was achieved.

Bulls:  The Bovelder bulls were also of top quality this year, and are testament to Freddy and Mark’s commitment to this side of the business as well. The five most expensive bulls were sold as follows:

Rome Boerdery (Jacques en Allie Prinsloo) from Vrede bought Lot 10 for R92 000. Koodoo Lake Trust (Emil Bothma) from Stella bought the second, third, and fourth most expensive Lots (Lot 34; 14 en 17) at R85 000, R77 000 en R72 000 respectively.  Lot 38 was bought by LJ Viljoen from Bethal,  also at R72 000. The average price across all the bulls was R54 667, with 100% sold!

The online nature of this specific sale made it so unique, while there was a total ban on having sales in the traditional manner for two weeks. We had to make a lot of adjustments in a small amount of time, but thanks to everyone’s contributions, the day went smoothly.

We would like to thank the following people and organisations:

SwiftVee: The online auction platform made a huge contribution to the practicalities of the day, and we couldn’t have done any of this without them.

Auctioneer: Paul Botha from Vleissentraal Ermelo stood in for Ian Grobbelaar, who usually conducts the auctions. Paul did exceptionally well, together with the Vleissentraal team from Frankfort, support from Danie de Wet and Theuns Botha and their colleagues from BKB, as well as the wool officials from OVK.

Dawid Botha: Dawid has been in charge of the marketing of the past six Kromspruit auctions. He has a very hands-on approach, and pays attention to the finer details.

Talita Blom:  Talita is from TLCreative in Frankfort, and is the graphic designer in charge of the advertisements.

The next sale will take place in February 2022, and will once again consist of ewes, rams, and bulls, but a large amount of female Bovelders will also be on offer.
